Update on Park & Trails and Your Private Property

With all the rain we’ve had this spring and summer, most of our parks and yards are very lush & green. However, all the moisture has also caused extreme growth of grass, weeds, bushes, and trees making it difficult to keep up with.  In an effort to spruce-up Mountain Shadows MSCA has asked the city to do its part, and now we are asking you as well.  

What the City is Doing

On behalf of MSCA, I sent a letter to the Parks Division about some issues on City property within our neighborhood.  This included our concerns with the high grass along the Flying W Ranch Rd trail system, extensive weeds within the grass field areas in the park, completion of landscaping around the new playground and memorial, and sodding and overseeding throughout the grass field area.  The parks department was very responsive and has already begun to address these issues.  They have assured me they will complete the mowing along the trail system within a few weeks.  They will also be spraying and overseeding the grass field area, as well as complete sodding of the infield in the next few weeks.  The native grass areas around the memorial and playground will occur in early spring along with converting bluegrass areas on the north and east edges of the park to native, which will help conserve water.  ​

What You Can Do

With all the wonderful rain we’ve had, many of us have areas in our yards we don’t see on a regular basis, and they have become overgrown.  We ask you to take a moment and walk your yard to see if any of your yard needs some extra attention.  Pay close attention to those areas along the perimeter of your yard which might be impacting your neighbor and those walking along a sidewalk on your property.  We have noticed many low-hanging branches and high grass along the Flying W Ranch Rd corridor which need to be trimmed.  If you need help with some of this yard work, please contact me as I have a list of several high school & college aged students looking to help at a very good price as well as some professionals.  ​

What MSCA is Doing

On Saturday, August 29th, join MSCA at any of the neighborhood monument signs and help us weed, mow and clean them up.  Or make this the day you catch-up on your own yard.
